Girls Generation wins "Singer of the Year"



The pop group Girls' Generation was named singers of the year by the National Assembly's popular culture and media study society.

The society surveys lawmakers every year to select the National Assembly awards winners in ten categories in culture and sports.

Other winners announced Tuesday include "Take Off" in the film category, "Jewel in the Palace" in musicals, "Tears in the Arctic" in TV programs, Kim Young-im in traditional Korean music, and marathoner Lee Bong-ju in distinguished contribution.

The awards ceremony will take place next Monday.
